A long walk (or running?)
Bernarda Maia January 5th, 2009
Eight months ago I started training with a personal trainer in a gymnasium close to my home. Today, 14/11/09, was my last session with him. I’m feeling pretty sad because this trainer has changed my life. I’m moving to Sydney in a few days and I don’t know if I will find someone like him, who does the same kind of exercises that he does.
I have been exercising two days per week with him and on the other days I have been doing only cardio exercises, normally running. There is no magic bullet for getting fit. I’m not the kind of person who hates to go to the gym but I have never been a big fan either. With him, however, I started to love doing whatever he asked me to do. There were simple exercises, like hopping, running through obstacles, lifting weights while lifting myself on a bench, doing squats and lunges with or without cables and weights. I seemed to be always standing up instead of sitting down on those weight lifting machines.
I also changed myself in a good way. I created the habit of going to the gym every day. I remember when I started to exercise I did an evaluation to measure my body age. When I started, my body was 63 years old. The last time I did this evaluation my body was 43 years of age which means that in 4 months took 20 years off my physical age. I have to do this test again, and I’m sure I’ll be younger than I was 4 months ago. I’m not sure if my body is my real age or not, yet—I could be even younger, but I’m sure that I’m feeling much better! Nowadays I’m slim and fit.
Thank you Darren Steel, my personal trainer and a good mate, for all your help!
